Anonymous asked: What is your opinion on Lauryn Hill?

Let me first preference this by saying that I LOVE Lauryn Hill.  She’s responsible for some of my favorite music ever.

My views on Lauryn have drastically since I first fell in love with her on Killing Me Softly.  Back then she was somewhat of a demigoddess in my eyes who no matter what, could do no wrong in my eyes. Nowadays, I approach her with a more sober spirit.  She is indeed human.  Which I don’t fault her for. As much it sucked to not hear new music from her for so long, I applauded her for leaving for the reasons she did. Her family and real life were more important to her than stardom.  She came, she saw, she conquered and left.  But more importantly.  She left on TOP.  Which is why I think most overrate her the way they do.  Now don’t get me wrong, her musical impact on the world is undeniable, but when people start to hail her as the greatest anything, I cringe a little.  The fact (or my opinion) will always be that she quit far too early for her to be recognized as that. Especially as a rapper.  (Considering she never even put out a full rap album).  I think her time has passed her. I will ALWAYS remember her for the impact she had on me.  I could care less if she never brought any new material out.  The Miseducation, Unplugged and the Score will hold me forever.
